Spa Media is run by Colin and Janette Sykes. We're qualified journalists with wide-ranging experience in newspapers, magazines, radio and television , public relations, press releases, voice-overs, media training and conference chairing.

Colin trained as a print journalist before switching to broadcasting and the BBC where he worked for 30 years in both Radio and Television.

He is best known for his appearances on BBC North West Tonight where he was the Environment and Transport  Correspondent.

Colin is an experienced video journalist and trainer.  He has also  chaired dozens of public meetings, conferences and concerts throughout the North West.

 

 

Janette is a qualified journalist with extensive

 experience of writing and editing newspapers and magazines.

 

She was Features Editor of Peak District Magazine and launch Editor of Peak District Life. She is also highly experienced in Public Relations - able to turn your ideas into lively,  interesting and readable copy for magazines,  newspapers and websites.

Colin Sykes was trained in print journalism and went on to work on weekly and evening newspapers in the North West.

Colin Sykes trained as a newspaper journalist and spent seven years in weekly and evening papers before switching to broadcasting.

Colin trained in print journalism in Sheffield before going on to work for weekly and evening newspapers in the North West. He made the switch to broadcasting more than 30 years ago when he joined the BBC. Much of his experience is in local radio - working for Radio Manchester and then Radio Sheffield as a reporter and producer. After 12 months in London working for the BBC's Westminster operation, he returned to Radio Manchester as News Editor and then Deputy Manager.

After a spell with BBC North West Tonight as a producer, Colin became one of the first Bi Media Editors in the North . He was the Change Manager when North West Tonight went digital - training its journalists to edit for the first time. More recently, he ran the pilot programmes when North West Tonight moved to it's new state of the art studio at Media City in Salford.

Janette began her professional career in journalism as a newspaper reporter working for several publications in the North West. She went on to establish her own successful PR business working first as a freelance for one of the top PR agencies in Manchester and then with her own clients at companies like Manchester Airport, United Utilities and in the public sector, the Central Office of Information, several local councils and the University of Derby.

Janette is much in demand as a writer. For many years she was Features Editor of Peak District Magazine and then launch Editor of Peak District Life. She has also written for numerous other publications including Cheshire Life and Yorkshire Life. She was co-author of the successful Best of Britain Peak District Guide.
